will surely have one eye on the offseason and beyond (Source: Reuters) Top News The hard work is just about to start for Antonio Conte Top of the English Premier League since early November Chelsea can complete its serene march to the title by picking up three points over its next three games the first of which is at West Bromwich Albion on Friday With the other two matches being at home to out-of-form Watford and already-relegated Sunderland it’s surely a formality for the Blues In public Conte won’t be thinking further ahead than his team’s trip to The Hawthorns but a coach as thorough and hard-working as the Italian will surely have one eye on the offseason and beyond Challenges abound First of all will Conte want to continue at Chelsea Weekly stories linking him with Inter Milan which on Tuesday fired coach Stefano Pioli might be wide of the mark despite the Italian team’s Chinese owners reportedly offering 12 million euros ($13 million) a year Yet his wife Elisabetta and young daughter Vittoria still live in Italy and Conte said recently that it “is not easy” living away from his family Leading Chelsea into the Champions League should be enough of a lure for Conte who has two years left on his contract However being back in Europe’s top competition presents its own challenges Conte has been able to use a settled side in the Premier League without the extra playing demands of Europe _ a point that has been raised by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho _ so next season will be more of a slog At former club Juventus Conte had two seasons in the Champions League: Juve reached the quarterfinals in 2012-13 before being swept aside by Bayern Munich and then failed to advance from its group the following year After his second try Conte bemoaned the difference between Juventus and the top European clubs saying: “When you sit in a restaurant where a meal costs 100 euros you can’t think about eating with just 10 euros” Virtually the same Juve team went on to reach the Champions League final the following year under Massimiliano Allegri however Conte will have to strengthen the Chelsea squad to cope with Europe and his work in the transfer market is sure to be scrutinized with Conte having been frustrated in his dealings last summer Top on the list of his concerns could be his strikers with Diego Costa potentially set to leave for China this summer Costa has his critics but he has led the line brilliantly for Chelsea this season scoring 20 league goals and won’t be easy to replace Meanwhile is the rarely used Michy Batshuayi good enough as a second-choice striker There are very few weaknesses in Chelsea’s squad but with long-time club captain John Terry set to leave because his contract is expiring and Branislav Ivanovic recently departed the team’s leadership group will be hit Other concerns for Conte might be the fact that opponents have got used to his side’s 3-4-3 formation and might be able to handle it better Chelsea as champion won’t start the season under the radar like it did last August _ the telling statistic remains that no team has retained the title since Manchester United in 2009 For now though Conte will want to enjoy the winning the league for the fourth season in a row at club level And it would be a surprise if it didn’t happen on Friday with West Brom having gone six games and almost two months without a victory in the league TOTTENHAM vs MANCHESTER UNITED If Chelsea drops points at West Brom Tottenham _ seven points behind in second place _ will need to win its final game at White Hart Lane after 118 years to keep alive the title race The stadium is being demolished and a new one with a capacity of 61000 is being built on the same site A victory would also guarantee a second-place finish for Tottenham RELEGATION BATTLE With two games left Hull Swansea and Crystal Palace look to be battling it out to avoid being the third team relegated along with Sunderland and curtailed central allocation to various welfare programmes including MNREGA PTI Written by Manish Sabharwal | Published: July 11 2014 2:42 am Urbanisation is about taking jobs to people not the other way round Related News Job creation is a child of five aligned “geographies” of jobs — physical sectoral firm-size education and legislative To paraphrase Samuel Huntington the gap between India’s ideals and its reality is not a lie but a disappointment And it is only a disappointment because our ideals are high India’s recent election results represent our population’s — particularly our young people’s — impatience with the pace of job creation This budget made interesting down payments on all five geographies: On the physical geography the key points were urbanisation infrastructure and clusters China has 400 cities with more than a million people whereas India has only 50 Urbanisation is about taking jobs to people not the other way round which the budget rightly emphasised: industrial corridors SEZs smart cities industrial cities low-cost housing for youth village internet connectivity and rural housing The two biotech clusters six textile clusters and five new tourist circuits are great ideas because job creation explodes with infrastructure knowledge and supplier clusters These models could be replicated and scaled for other industries The budget highlighted infrastructure projects: 24×7 power industrial corridors Northeast rail connectivity village roads drinking water warehousing capacity ports highways etc On the sectoral geography the two defects in India’s labour markets — 12 per cent engaged in manufacturing and 50 per cent in agricultural employment — are closely related because people have not been able to move off farming due to a lack of alternatives The budget stressed the importance of manufacturing employment through its many improvements to “the ease of doing business”: GST retrospective taxation etc The higher ceilings for FDI are important — more than 60 per cent of China’s exports come from multinationals and salaries there have increased at 17 per cent in dollar terms every year for the last five years The shift in focus of the MGNREGA to productivity will involve asset creation and skills and should accelerate non-farm rural job creation With firm-size geography redefining the limit for MSMEs was important; India’s firms are mostly dwarfs rather than babies We cannot compete with China as long as 85 per cent of manufacturing comes from firms with less than 50 employees Access to capital is an important constraint; the proposal for licensing small banks and the fund for startups are relevant on this count The budget deals at length with “plumbing” to remove regulatory cholesterol An electronic eBiz portal integrating government ministries by December 31 24×7 customs clearances streamlining tax administration to avoid harassment etc should be complemented by aggressive recommendations from the MSME committee As far as education geography is concerned unemployability is a bigger problem than unemployment Fixing the lousy Apprentices Act converting employment exchanges into career centres and the convergence among various skills schemes into a national multi-skill mission are long overdue The allocation for school assessments and for teacher training are probably inadequate but signal an imminent shift from the enrolment- based discourse of the RTE to an outcome-based right to learning act The new IITs IIMs and AIIMSs are welcome; in a country where these institutes largely provide signalling value this expansion can happen without damage The new medical colleges are interesting but hopefully only a preview to a strong pushback against those who want to regulate medical education The allocation for virtual classrooms signals acceptance of MOOCs and may lead to overdue distance education reform On legislative geography there is widespread disappointment that the budget did not have more to say about labour law reform and its provident fund announcements were inconsistent with its big message of living within means as it made an actuarially untenable decision to raise the pension provided by the Employees’ Pension Scheme On the first I believe the budget is an inappropriate forum to signal specifics; labour law reform has been killed many times by incomplete and badly sequenced announcements Real action on labour reform was begun many days ago on the website of the Central ministry of labour and in states like Rajasthan On the second the unified account scheme was positive but creating competition for EPFO and ESI were clearly a missed opportunity because they don’t have clients but hostages Fixing our five geographies of work requires differentiating between a recipe (how) and the list of ingredients (what) The list of ingredients is well known But a recipe is about proportioning sequencing and choosing Unfortunately the budget speech made it sound like a list of ingredients even though the details clearly show that it was more of a recipe One clear takeaway for next time: a professional speechwriter This budget topic of exes “She was fantastic in bed” recalled the friend smiling at some distant memory (which of course he didn’t share with us) That however got the ball rolling and soon we were all talking about the times when we had the ‘best sex ever’ Stories ranged from one-night stands to monogamous relationships lasting decades The funny thing though no one talked about how well-endowed their partner was Sure that did come up in some other context but that was not what necessarily made them great lovers Read More In my line work as well we get asked this question plenty of times How do I get better at sex How can I satisfy a woman How do I enlarge my penis (Presumably that’s linked to better sex as well) And while there is a tonne of anecdotal advice on the Internet telling us what to do and what not to all of it can be broadly classified under three simple principles (these principles – I should warn you – have nothing to do with the size of your penis or you mastering the Kama Sutra) 1 COMMUNICATE Okay bear with me for a moment here We’ve all heard this one I know But it’s not just about communicating your needs during sex that is important A recent study has shown that it’s important to get comfortable with the overall idea of talking about sex itself Naturally having safe sex falls under the ‘good sex’ category and Dr Emily Morse sex and relationship expert says that even being able to openly talk about the basics is a sign that you’re doing something right Once that box is checked take things to the next level “Communication during sex has been linked to more sexual satisfaction” says Elizabeth Babin an expert on health communication at Cleveland State University Ohio But why is communication so important any way Remember sex is a highly personal varied experience What one partner might like the other might abhor So talk about what both of you like enjoy and want to experiment with (consent is sexy) And while yes it’s good to have a partner that understands your needs and wants you owe it to yourself to enjoy the sex too right So get vocal 2 LISTEN You have communicated to your partner what you want and vice versa That’s not going to magically give you the best sex of your life Listen Pick up on non-verbal cues Remember the time when you were getting it on and thought to yourself: ‘Woah this person really knows what he/she is doing” Chances are your partner was simply responding to subtle changes in your body language According to Babin non-verbal communication was more closely linked to satisfaction than verbal communication “It [non-verbal communication] could be perceived as being less threatening so it might be easier to moan or to move in a certain way to communicate than to say ‘Hey this feels really good I like that’” While this might sound really complicated just being present and in the moment and responding to those subtle cues go a long way in satisfying your partner says Morse Read all the Let’s Talk columns here 3 BE CONSIDERATE Sometimes even if the sex is say mediocre at best the way a partner treats you goes a long way in enhancing the overall experience From foreplay until you walk out of the door everything in between counts I remember one of my exes would go fetch glasses of water for both of us right after sex It was a very simple act but it showed he cared Morse agrees “The moments following sex can be a pivotal in determining what kind of a lover he will be To some this might seem a little over the top but it really makes a difference for your overall sexual experience” So to quickly sum it up be it a one-night stand with someone you’ll never see again or sex with someone you’re planning to be with for the next seven births being considerate attentive and the study older adults participated in a moderate-intensity group exercise program called ‘LaughActive’ that incorporates playful simulated laughter — self-initiated as bodily exercise — into a strength balance and flexibility workout The findings showed that simulated laughter can be an ideal way for older adults with functional or cognitive impairment Significant improvements were also found among participants in mental health aerobic endurance and outcome expectations for exercise Further 962 per cent participants found laughter to be an enjoyable addition to a traditional exercise program 889 per cent said laughter helped make exercise more accessible and 889 per cent reported the program enhanced their motivation to participate in other exercise classes or activities “The combination of laughter and exercise may influence older adults to begin exercising and to stick with the program” said lead author Celeste Greene graduate student at Georgia State University Despite the health benefits of physical activity and the risks of physical inactivity many adults don’t engage in sufficient physical activity to achieve health benefits Maintaining the motivation to adhere to regular physical activity is a challenge for many older adults the researchers said Adults should participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity at least five days a week to achieve desirable health outcomes according to the US Department of Health and Human Services’ 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines These health benefits include lower mortality and a reduced risk of a number of chronic conditions including coronary heart disease high blood pressure stroke Type 2 diabetes metabolic syndrome osteoporosis colon cancer breast cancer anxiety and depression Regular physical activity also reduces the impact of age-related declines in aerobic endurance the incidence of falls and hip fracture and the degenerative loss of muscle mass quality and strength All of these benefits are crucial in older adults maintaining their ability to perform activities of daily living The pleasant associations with laughter may add enjoyment to an exercise program and keep older adults motivated to work out the researchers noted in the paper published in the journal The Gerontologist For six weeks the participants in the study attended two 45-minute physical activity sessions per week that included eight to 10 laughter exercises lasting 30 to 60 seconds each As laughter is scientifically demonstrated to strengthen and relax muscles the intentional laughter exercise was
