Community groups branch out to make Donegal greener

first_imgBuncrana Tidy Towns Initiative and Wild Inishowen are branching out.The groups planted more native trees over the weekend at Elm Park and the Cockhill graveyard as part of National Tree Week which ran from the 5th to 11 of March.by Kieran Blockley National Tree Week has been organised by the Tree Council of Ireland since 1985 and is an annual week-long programme of events to celebrate trees.Speaking after the tree planting event Buncrana Tidy Towns Spokesperson Sinéad Ní Bhroin said they are delighted to have been part of this great event with Wild Inishowen.“One of the casualties of the recent floods has been the loss of trees along the river banks and streams affected. Our tree planting will help to offset this damage as well as supporting longer-term environmental objectives.“National Tree Week is an opportunity to remind ourselves why trees are so important to local communities.
